Available Retirees

G.R.A.C.E. believes that prospective adopters should have a chance to learn about the greyhounds available. See what they look like, ask questions about particular dogs, and ultimately choose a greyhound who will best suit their circumstances and enrich their lives.

  • We help adopters choose dogs by providing detailed information about each dog and offering suggestions about which dogs would work best in the adopter’s environment.

  • We do not place a dog in a home without the adopters full involvement in the decision-making process.

  • All families with children ages 5 and younger must have a fenced in yard to adopt.

  • Please click on the application tab to complete the application.

  •   Please feel free to follow up with us regarding your application at 734-558-4218 if you have not heard from us within 72 hours of submitting your application. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting or fostering a greyhound, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Note:  We have a large number of applications and we are working them as fast as we can.  If you submitted an application please be patient….we are getting more greyhounds in and will be working to help you find your fast friend.

UPDATE:  Because of the current conditions in our state and across the country we are not doing on site home visits. We are asking our applicants to send in a video of their home, yard and pets to help us make a determination on approval and working to find a greyhound that will meet your requirements.  Once the video is received we will work to have the foster parents contact the applicants to discuss their fosters.  Videos can be sent to: gracehounds@yahoo.com or 734-558-4218.  Please make sure you include your name on your videos.

Thank you

Below are our current Available Retirees. Feel free to pick one, or several, to become your new family pet! Remember, greyhounds are like potato chips…you can’t have just one.

Hello my name is Hallie and I am a special little girl that is looking for my forever home

Hi, my name is Hallie and I came to GRACE from Palm Beach where I had a short racing career (4 races). I am super sweet and love everyone I meet with the exception of those things you call cats; small, furry, run. Small dogs are not so good either, too much like a live squeakie toy.

I am doing great in my foster home. I’m learning my foster mom is alpha, not me. Counter surfing is a no, no. That one is hard. Squirrels are the absolute bomb! What fun to watch for them out the windows and sliding door then run out the dog door to try and chase or bark at from the fence.

Lets see, what else? I love going for car rides and settle right down until we get to where we are going. I need a little more work on the leash. There is so much to explore I have trouble just walking nicely. I do potty on leash when needed. I don’t live with little people but have met them at Meet & Greets and think they are really cool. I do have to be careful around little, little people as I get very excited and can be too much for them. I forget to keep four feet on the floor and need to touch people, sometimes with my mouth; another no, no according to my foster mom. That can scare the real little people even though it is all in loving fun for me. I have to admit, I am exuberant. Most everything I do is to the extreme, no halfway for me.

And who is it that stated Greyhounds don’t bark? I have a very healthy voice and use it, regularly. When I do need a rest, my preferred location is in a lap or at least snuggled next to a person. They keep me so toasty warm and comfortable as I nap. And I’m handy for petting. I also like to just stand with my head between my foster mom’s legs as she is standing in the kitchen or anywhere else. I know she appreciates the attention. When anyone comes to visit, I can’t contain myself. I want to make sure they know they are welcome by barking and jumping and nibbling. Not sure why my foster mom tries to make me stop. The visitors may think they aren’t welcome and not come again and that would be the furthest from the truth.

I am really good at going up and down stairs, taught myself. I’m not used to being crated as I get free run of the house. I have to wear that muzzle when my foster parents leave, something about inappropriate chewing, I’m only 2 after all. What do you think teeth are for? I do do my best to only chew appropriately, just so you know.

I am a fair weather girl, snow and rain are NOT my friends. I’ve had my nails trimmed and it wasn’t too bad. Brushing is really nice. I don’t try to get on the furniture except for the beds. My people are in them so I think I need to be in them too. They make me get off but I sneak back up after they have gone to sleep then snuggle close.

I do like wearing a sweater on cold nights. I stay much more comfortable that way so I can sleep the night. So, grab a handful of treats, sit down and let me keep you company in your lap. We’ll have a greyt time.

I’m ready to find a home to call my own....could that be with you??? I am waiting!!!

Hi my name is Beau and I came to Michigan from Kansas. I never made it to racing but was bred to race. I am a little bit timid at first...but am learning new things each and every day. I am super sweet and will make a wonderful addition to a GRACE Family.

I have been making some strides in my foster home. I would do great in a home with just women. I am a little shy of men. I could probably do well if I had a fenced in yard to run and play and if I had another hound to play with. So if you are looking for a handsome, quiet, shy sorta guy, I'm your grey.

I wanted to let everyone know that my Grandma Lexi my mom Skyler and my sister Baby have already been adopted by a GRACE Family...so this truly is a family affair.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Hello. My name is Waterford, or as my foster parents call me "Mama." I was a racer and a brood mom and now I'm moving on to the next stage of my life.

My foster parents say I'm the calmest, most gentle and patient dog they've ever met. I don't bark, steal food from the counter, or try to get into the trash. I didn't fuss when my mom gave me a bath and, even though I don't really like it, I let my mom brush my teeth without complaining too much. I mostly leave the cat alone too, but I kinda want to chase her when she runs around (I am a greyhound after all!) If you have a cat, you'll have to watch me around her until we get used to each other. Over all, if you are clear about what the rules are, I will follow them without making any trouble.

My foster parents have been really nice, but adjusting has still been hard for me. I don't like it when my people leave, and I miss my greyhound friends. I would probably do best in a house with other dogs where my people don't leave me alone for too long. I'm really a big love bug and I like to be pet all the time.

I have just surprised my foster parents and starting playing with the squeeky toys. I really like my walks too. I am very polite on the leash. I never pull or try to chase squirrels. People always compliment me on how pretty and well behaved I am.

I don't know any tricks yet, but I'm very smart. I'm sure I could learn pretty quickly.

Stay tuned for updates as my foster mom learns new things about and I learn new stuff too.

Hi my name is PJ Bad Business but you can call me Quincey. I had a pretty good racing career (115 races) and now am getting ready for the next chapeter of my life as a couch potato.

See my foster moms comments below:

This handsome man is settling into Michigan.it has only been 2 days, but he has shown how smart he is! He can do stairs both up and down, is cat and small dog safe. Is a bit shy meeting people, but has a very sweet and mellow attitude. He is four years old and has run quite a few races! This morning on his walk ( does well on lead) he spotted a bunny and took the girls and I for a quick Run!! LOL!
His racing name was “PJ Bad Business “.... maybe for a bunny! Such a loving gentleman looking for a home. I will keep you updated on his transition from racer to pet( or as my girl is called.... pampered couch potato;)

Hi, my name is Flynn and I came to Michigan from Kansas like my sister Flirty did a few weeks ago. Like her, I was bred to race but never made it that far. Now I am getting ready to become someone's best friend.

I am a beautiful red, 74 lb. hunk of handsome young hound. I come naturally calm and well behaved. It only took me a day and a half to figure out house training. The stairs took a little longer, up was easy but down was a little scary but I’ve got ‘um now. I love to play with toys and if I choose something that isn’t a toy, I take correction very well.

I have no trouble eating, quite enjoy it. Treats are a lot of fun. Counter surfing is a no, no much to my dismay. I didn’t know about watching out doors and windows for critters until my foster sister Hallie showed me what to do. Now we enjoy that together and race out the dog door when we see something. That might be why I’m not cat safe; it’s fun to chase small critters.

I slept my first night and every night since right through from bedtime to breakfast. And I’m real good at taking naps throughout most of the day. I am a Greyhound after all and that’s what we do. I did real well with my first bath and stood very still to have my ears cleaned; boy were they dirty!!! I like car rides and potty on leash. My favorite scratchy place is my neck but you don’t have to stop there. I stay close to my foster parents, following them from room to room and making sure I am close enough for a pet or two. Wouldn’t want them to think they are neglected. Would you like me to show you how I wouldn’t neglect you?

Hi my name is Lorenzo a and I came to Michigan from Kansas. I was bred to race but never made it that far....that doesn't mean I'm not fast...just that I saw a couch in my future. Also, my brother Lawson aka VJ Loyalnstrong also made the trip with me.

News flash, being loved on is A MAZ ING!!!!!!! Who’d have thought that having your ears rubbed and your neck scratched would feel so good? I even had to push my foster sister Hallie away when she tried to horn in on my lovens the other day. I wonder what else I’m going to discover about this retired life.

You know, people may not be as scary as I originally thought. They give out the best treats. I make sure I don’t miss out on any of them anymore like I used to. I probably should mention I fly up and down the stairs. I ride well in the car once you get me into it. I don’t potty on leash yet; too many scary things around to be on the look-out for. And talking of leashes, I feel safer with a harness on and it is probably easier for you to control me. I need a lot of leash work. I think I’ll get a lot better on the leash once I feel comfortable and safe with my person. But right now it isn’t within my comfort zone.

I do enjoy playing with toys. And a bone is real nice to chew on. I have been perfect at being house broken, not one accident. It is real easy because I have a dog door at my disposal. Counter surfing is a new thing my foster mom insists is not appropriate. I think I’m cat safe but really not absolutely proven to be. I was too scared during my test for a definitive indication. But I’m sure if I meet a cat who would correct me, I’d learn real fast to respect it/them.

I do follow my foster parents around the house, I have to keep track of them. I do make sure they don’t oversleep in the morning. After all, breakfast is just after sunrise. That’s all I can think of right now. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll let you know.
